He/she is rather cute. I know next to nothing about pets other than cats and guinea pigs.
I got this linky today: http://www.superhappypets.com/article_cat_purr.html|||Zodiac, that's a cool article, but that cat on the top of the page and he has hands stroking the sides of his face look like that person is about to rip his head off or something. O.o i know they're petting it, but still... i had to look at it for a while. XD
interesting article. now i want to find a nice kitty to pet! XD
edit: and then go wash my hands! haha!|||Quote:
Pardon my ignorance, but is that a salt or fresh water aquarium? Those shrimps are kind of cute.

He would be the best to answer since it is his aquarium, but all of those look to be freshwater to me. Swordtails I know are freshies and the rocks seen with the snails are definitely for freshwater.
Salt tanks are gorgeous, but expensive, to set up. When I get settled into a more permanent place of residence I'll set one up again.
Yes, freshwater indeed. And for the above mentioned reason too. I agree salt water fish are much more varied and...well...good looking. So when I can afford it, I'll make sure to get myself one. I really want sea horses, they're just SO cool!
And yup, the shrimp are nice. Unfortunately, they are a bit shy right now, but I hope they'll be more comfy later on

Oh, I do! You've read my novel-length posts on the subject so you know I have a borderline obsession with fishkeeping.
But I tend to think of fish not as "pets" per se but rather as "ornaments" (albeit very delicate and living ones), as one doesn't really have any meaningful social interaction with fish - unlike a cat or dog.
That's not true! I talk to my fish (but they swim away)
I know, I know, you're a bit fishy too, just like me. I'd better start updating with fishpics too! |||i love fish! im a Pisces (i believe in astrology. *prepares for superstition bashing* <--hehe!) and i am a water person (love the water. beaches, lakes, ponds, fish, mermaids, sea horses (cute!!), sea shells, etc.) and fishes make me happy and peaceful. they just swim around, chillin' out, ya know, doing their thing. they tend to be pretty and shiny as well.
have you guys ever heard of algae eaters? they're little fish things that eat algae. well, apparently, they eat fish food too. i did not know this until i accidentally killed the family algae eater and he died after long while. he had gotten pretty big. i felt really bad. chuckle.|||Quote:

As a matter of fact, I was trying to talk Lorv into adding a Pleco to his community tank a couple weeks ago but I guess when I said "looks like something out of a Lovecraftian nightmare," I might have ruined it.
They're awesome fish... except when they get spooked. When that happens, they can make quite a mess!
I also tried to sell him on the awesomeness that is the Kuhli Loach - they're good for helping keep debris in the gravel from becoming impacted.
This whole thread is going to be completely screwed if I get encouraged to talk about fish though so I'd suggest going back to lizards and cats or you'll never shut me up. |||Quote:

I thought you were more of a fishy kind of guy, like me.
I recently bought some new inhabitants to my aquarium, total population now is up to 14 (plus those annoying mini-snails).
I recently bought 5 crystal red shrimps, a Sewellia Lineolata (loach thingy) and a snail-eating snail (Anetome Helena) for cleaning purposes.
My previous four Swordtails still enjoy life, and also three swordtail spawns appeared out of nowhere last week. Funny, because considering their size it must have been the same spawns that I saw just 2-3 times a month ago, but since then didn't see for 3 weeks. I assumed they were eaten, but they must have been hiding very good, not showing up once in 3 weeks. Now they are all at the front of the aquarium, showing off more than their parents.
Sidenote: None of the pictures are from my aquarium, my camera is simply too bad to take good pictures through the glass. I really should borrow my girlfriends camera. |||Quote:

I am on Nazonex and Advair for my kitties. Between those two meds, I feel fine. It can be rather expensive, but worth it to me.
I helped birth Aberdeen, Meatloaf and Baylen. They are the funniest bunch of furballs you would ever see.|||Ah, cats. Long post incoming. I have two cats up north where I used to live (when I moved south they stayed at home), so unfortunately I only get to see them a few times a year :/.
Anyway, they're names are Leo and Kimba, or as me and my brother calls them, Wisdom and Courage respectively.
When god was handing out brains, Leo was sleeping behind the door. The youngest of our family, he has got to be the slowest cat I've ever see and frequently has the look of "what the hell are you talking about" plastered on his face. It seems like it takes a couple of minutes for anything to register with him.
Recently he had some sort of skin cancer thingy on his ear that we got fixed at the vet (it looks pretty bad in the picture but that was straight after the operation, and it's virtually all gone now, and yes he only eats the biscuits if they're on the floor), and as a result his left ear is slightly shorter than his right; a fact I frequently enjoy mocking every time I see him The only orange cat in the litter where we got him, I wouldn't trade him for the world.
My brothers cat, Kimba(doing what he does best) had a pretty bad upbringing. We rescued him from a friend of a friend who's husband kept him locked in a room 24/7, and frequently kicked him around. The husband kept threatening to hit him on the head with a hammer, which prompted us to head over there late one night to take him home with us. He's been safe with us for the past ~10 years, though I don't think he ever fully recovered mentally. He's as timid as you can get, and spent the first month or so hiding behind a washing machine at our place. Likewise, he almost never makes a noise. Unless you were paying attention you'd never know when he enters/leaves a room, and he never really meows or anything. He does do the occasional muffled "squark" though, usually only when he thinks you have food for him.
Even now he is scared of new people, and prefers to be around my brother, myself or our mother. He won't let anyone else touch him/pick him up, and will bolt to one of our rooms usually straight as soon as someone comes over. Given enough exposure to the same person, he'll slowly accept them as he has with our close relatives. Still, he can be quite inquisitive every now and then.

There are quite a few animals hanging out around here, all of which I could easily spend paragraphs describing, but I will cut if short:
Shep is the oldest, he is a 10 year old Schnauser/Bassett mix who spends most of his time asleep. When he's not sleeping he likes to roll over to display what he seems to believe is still there but what is not in fact still there. He doesn't like people. Any of them.
Walter is dachsund number one, and is a small brown dude of 3 years. He is a pain in the *** but can be cool sometimes.
Molly is big and black and has very large teeth. She is estimated at 2 to 3 years of age, but the date is not exact. The vet had been given puppy Molly, one of her feet had been chomped on by another dog and it was pretty messed up. The cats kept it very clean and eventually it healed, and she is very thankful for being taken in, which means she is extremely loyal and will do whatever you tell her.
Wilma is dachsund number two, and was not my idea. She Who Takes In Animals thought that the house needed another dog, and there was this little puppy, and it was so cute... Well now we know it is not a puppy, it really is that small, and it never shuts the **** up. Ever. I have personally heard it bark for 3 hours straight at nothing! It likes to drag things into it's home, a basket in the closet. It is really not bright.
And finally, my Squippy Girl! Squippy is a 2 year old Beagle who likes to stick her tongue out. In fact, that is what people tend to notice about her. They say a dog is man's best friend, and Squippy is my best friend. She gets worried easily, and tends to cry whenever anyone leaves, but that's ok.
I should stop, I'm starting to sound like some strange animal person...|||Quote:

Rosie is our 'drama queen', a semi-feral, special needs kitten 3 or 4 years old. She had a very rough early life, but is safe at home with us.

Cosmo (kid, Cosey etc.) is the baby, 18 months and our only non rescue. Mister doe eyes (Cosmo) is also my avatar. He is a sweet cat and quite an acrobat, check out the legs.

Mom was Great Dane, Pa was R.Ridgeback 120 lb in his prime and a hunter.
Abused and rescued, trained dog.
Now deaf, hips gone, post stroke 60% left side, tumors, etc. No pain and happy dog or I would put him down.
But it's not going to take much longer sadly.
Last cat Dissappered 9 months ago at 9 years old.

LOL Zodi is turning into a Cat Lady.
Well, kind of .
We get a lot of strays here and I don't have it in my heart to turn them away. Most are feral and I just feed them outside but a few were indoor kitties that were dropped off to fend for themselves.
I have always had at least three kitties. The kittens were supposed to find homes once they were weaned but I grew attached to them and didn't try to find homes. I also couldn't do that to my daughter. She loves all those kittens and they love her.
I do have to stop at six though. It is getting quite expensive for the vet trips. Four females getting spayed is quite pricey. I do get the multi-cat discount at the vet though .
Yogi, your pets are adorable.|||omg! i love animals and this thread is making me sad (bcuz i moved and i don't have a pet), but very happy and satisfying! lol!
the most pets i have ever had was 13, nine outside cats and four dogs or something.... Momma Cat had kittens... lol, good times. but we've always had outside pets, esp. cats, bcuz me and my sibs are allergic to hair/dander, idk. me, not so much with dogs, but i am with cats. i have grown quite fond of cats now and it sucks that i can't have one where i am living now. :/
at my mom's house, there are three dogs. two of them are sibs, Scrappy and Harley. they aren't HUGE dogs, but Scrappy is skinny and has had skin probs, but he is so gentle and he stays around the house. Harley, on the other hand, is a lot more wilder, def more meatier, and jumps a lot. he's lovable too, but his nails are a bit long. they draw blood sometimes... they are half-pits and half-labs i think. their mom, my aunt's dog, was a meaty pit with tiger-ish markings (i wanna say they are called tiger pits... idk. not a pit person) and she was so affectionate! the dad, my aunt's other dog, was a chocolate lab, i believe (or at least half of one), and he was very nice too. both are no longer at my aunt's house. i dunno what happened to them (something about the pound picked them up or they ran away...). parents were both pretty medium sized, and so are Harley and Scrappy.
the other dog at my mom's is named Bandit and my dad picked him up from someone one day. i had no idea we had a nice little addition until the next morning when i was on my way to school and wanted to see why there was so much barking. He is a pretty dog, eyes the color of the sky and pure white. i think my dad said he was half-husky, half-wolf. he looks very much like a wolf, lol. he's very playful, likes to jump as well, and is as tall as me when on hindlegs or just about.
all three of them are still young, under five years (i would say about 3 YO), and i miss them so much! they make good outside guard dogs too, bcuz there have been a few times where...yeah. they let us know when someone is there (most of the time) when we don't hear a car amongst our yelling at each other or whatever.|||I have a golden retriever, Hermes, who just turned 2 years old Oct 10. He's a fantastic dog that is very, very people-oriented. All he wants is some attention and to have someone touching him. A lot of times he is content just to have my girlfriend lay on the couch, him just below her, and have her hold his paw. He can be pushy with wanting attention, but he has a great heart and is a pleasure to have around.
My girlfriend just adopted a long-haired cat 2 weeks ago. Her previous name was "Rosie" but she didn't like that so renamed her "Beba". She is 1 year old, was attacked by a dog but the previous owner couldn't afford the vet bills so the clinic took ownership rather than have her put down, paid the bills, and gave her to the SPCA for adoption where she found her. She's nice enough but still not completely sure about Hermes.
I have plenty of pictures of Hermes, including him as a puppy, on my facebook page if anyone cares to befriend me and take a look. facebook.com/vlondi|||Quote:

My dog is like that. She'll squirm and whine and whimper, and as soon as you put your hand on her head, she'll calm down.

My wife and I have three tuxedo cats and a blond dog ATM.
Sylvester (AKA Qwegybo), is our 20lb., Klibanesque alpha male, aged 9 years and a rescue. He one tough, funny and very loving cat, a true king.

Rosie is our 'drama queen', a semi-feral, special needs kitten 3 or 4 years old. She had a very rough early life, but is safe at home with us.
http://img30.imageshack.us/i/rosiel.jpg/
Cosmo (kid, Cosey etc.) is the baby, 18 months and our only non rescue. Mister doe eyes (Cosmo) is also my avatar. He is a sweet cat and quite an acrobat, check out the legs.

Lucky... well, he is a dufuss, but his heart is in the right place . He is about 10 and another kinda tough rescue story.
http://img8.imageshack.us/i/lucky2ub.jpg/|||My dog is at least 15 years old, I thought he was 6 when I got him, but that age of 15+ is based on his being 1 at the time.

Yogi, your pets are adorable.|||omg! i love animals and this thread is making me sad (bcuz i moved and i don't have a pet), but very happy and satisfying! lol!

Boomer is my king cat. He is 16 years old now and is a minx point Siamese.
Zoh is a tortie cat who spends most of her time outside
Jesse is a black and white stray kitty who found me last year after my mother died. I was trying to get her spayed but she was always in heat and the vet wouldn't do it. My daughter let her out on accident and....well, we have three kittens.
Meatloaf is my daughter's cat. She is Siamese.
Aberdeen is my son's kitten. She is a calico.
Baylen is MY kitty. She is Himalayan.
All the kittens are a hoot.|||Oooh oooh oooh, kitties!!!
I only have 2 cat's, the fewest I've had since childhood. They're both basically mutt cats, but they're descended from the 3rd cat we ever owned, Beef! We still refer to her as Momma Kitty even though she hasn't been with us for well 10 years.
The oldest (and biggest) is Melvin. She(!) looks something like a calico, but the colors are milder and she has quite a bit of white. She's a little ugly, but in a way that just makes her super adorable! She's is ...12-13 I believe and is pretty muscular and a little chubby. She's a mega-mouser and is full of 'tude: she's almost always been the alpha (fe)male of the house! She's also the mother of:
Ginger. She's about 1 1/2 years younger, and is the complete opposite. She's super skinny, scared of just about everything and is spoiled rotten cause she's mind-numbingly adorable! She's orange tiger-stripe with a little white on the "under-carriage" and paws. Despite her age, she still thinks she's a little kitten!
I thought about starting a thread similar to this a while back, but with a twist. I was gonna ask people to describe their pets as D2 classes!! Let's see:
Melvin: A lvl 87 Fishymancer with a horde of mouse skeleton's and Revives doing Baal runs.

It's great when they don't get their way.|||Quote:
The verdict actually gave me a slight bit of hope for our society. When the media talking heads and court of public opinion were all screaming for Casey to get the needle before a single word had been uttered in a courtroom, that a group of 12 jurors could ignore all of that and reach a unanimous verdict that the prosecutor had failed to prove its case, well, that says something about the objectivity of our courtroom, whether or not the verdict rendered was actually correct.
But then I saw people posting death threats against the jurors because they didn't follow their "gut" instinct instead of what was presented to them by the prosecution.
Nevermind, we're screwed.
+1. The outrage is ridiculous.
Let me see if I understand this correctly: There was no murder weapon. No evidence (short of circumstantial) of foul play. No cause of death by the coroner due to the decomposition. No forensic evidence indicating Caylee had been beaten or otherwise willfully murdered or abused.
And people think, beyond a reasonable doubt, that Casey Anthony is guilty of first-degree murder and aggravated X, Y, Z, of which if convicted of first-degree murder, Casey could get the death penalty?
Right.
Now to be honest, I expected her to be found guilty, because as plainly obvious after the fact, the vast majority of people are, well, stupid. Or certainly seem to act so. The fact that she was found innocent (against my expectations) is a sliver of hope in our justice system - that the jury selected could still make the right decision despite the per-usual media bull****. No one is saying Casey Anthony is innocent. People like me are just saying you didn't have the evidence to find her guilty. And our justice system, correctly, I believe, presumes her innocent until proven guilty.
For those of you who don't know who Nancy Grace is, she's a shrill, incompetent, useless asshole who yaps about sensational trials and ensures that anybody foolish enough to listen soon becomes as incapable of being objective as she is.
