Quitting a job - Page 3

Quote:

That is the slave mentality. Are you gonna be a slave and let people sit on you, or are you gonna forge the future with your hands.

So being childish helps you to "forge the future with your hands". Do you stick out your tongue and stamp you foot too?|||What I don't understand is if one is living in a state that has employment "at will" and the employer can get rid of an employee for no reason, why should a notice be given?

I love my new job!! The people there are wonderful.|||I quit my job 2 and half month ago, thinking I have enough experience to go anywhere and can land a job quickly, but now still jobless.|||I would always give a weeks notice regardless of wether my contract requires it, i just think it is a polite thing to do and word does get around. My current jobs requires 4 weeks notice (and they are required to provide me with 4 weeks notice).

One thing to remember about your resume / CV is that you do not need to put all your employment details on it. For example if I worked for a company for 3 months and it didn't go well, I would just leave it off my CV (Note I wouldn't try to cover it up by changing dates, I would just leave a blank spot). If I got asked about it I would just respond that I tried something abit different and it didn't work out.|||you only live once, do something that makes you happy|||Agreed - it makes no sense to stay in a horrible place. You can make money anywhere, but you only have one life to live~!|||Quote:

they can, but when laying workers off it is generally customary to have a short severance. Well, for companies that care about their image anyway. A lot of banks are laying people off, and some are giving some notice, some aren't.

Of course in the case of a firing, they generally don't give any, but that's usually because they're trying to get rid of that person.

I still say that even for places you hate, you should give them some notice. at a bank, they sometimes walk you out right away anyway (or they should).|||Quote:

Congrats on the new job.

By the above post are you talking about lay offs? I would have thought that the company would still have to give you a few weeks pay after the worker got told. If its the other way round where the worker is leaving at will, then the i would have thought that the worker would still have to give few weeks notice or something (depending on contract) where the worker would still get paid.|||Quote:

Why didn't you just stay at your job while looking for a new job?|||Quote:

You should be doing what makes you happy all the time even.
