This is going to be bad it hit offshore so the waves are doing the damage right now but aftershocks are still hitting
Japan got Tsunami pretty bad 24 foot walls of water.
Tsunami warnings all the way to the west coast of the USA.
Even if the alerts save most of the lives (and they will save a lot - we have learned a lot) the property costs are going to hurt everyone for a long time.|||from what I read there have been close to 20 aftershocks, many of them over 6.0
they usually measure them a little high at first and the numbers come down, but thats still a lot of nasty aftershocks
the worst we had here was a 6.7 and that only had 4-5 aftershocks as high as 5.0
hawaii is looking at 3am and whats left of the tsunami is supposed to hit the west coast around 8am
so far the count on deaths is relatively low, I hope it stays that way, that was one massive quake|||Was woke up by the tsunami warning siren this morning, they're evacuting the lower parts of town and getting ready for it to hit here.|||Makes me glad I live somewhere where we don't get tornados/quakes/hurricanes etc.|||

lots of videos

the one below the caption "This Reuters report shows hundreds of cars being swept away by water and a live shot from inside a newsroom as the quake hits" is pretty bad
as is the one below this one "The quake started a fire that burnt through the night at a Japanese oil refinery"
hate to live in those areas; your house and community completely destroyed|||Quote:

Crescent City? yea from what I'm hearing you all got the worst of it on the west coast|||Yes we're still getting surges here. it appears the harbor is devastated and around 35 boats wrecked. They're still keeping people out of the evacuated areas. But this is nothing compared to Japan,my heart goes out to the people there.|||I experienced the 6.7 Richter Northridge quake in 1994, and it was the most terrifying event of my life. (With the exception of accidentally turning on the Rachel Ray show. Shudder.) I can't imagine what an 8.9 would be like.|||The desaster will reach a new order of magnitude if their nuclear power plant suffers a core meltdown. The cooling system is about to break down and if they don't get that cable in time to connect the generator truck to the cooling system...
Some heads are gonna roll regarding that... and a few more of them if they fail!|||Some more pictures here. Truly incredible.
