Moving to Oregon... ? - Page 2

I will choose Long Beach/LA anytime!

Transportation around the Portland is really nice http://trimet.org/

Just too much rain and slow drivers * Vancouver too -,.- *

Stay away from SE Portland or Gresham *iirc highest crime rate*

But very cheap properties!

Try http://www.alpinepdx.com/ <--- Very friendly

http://www.keysrentalmanagement.com/ <--- Stay away from them, my ex co-work friends sue them to get security deposit fee back + poor reviews

I only lived in condominiums *Not too sure with the apartment rents*

1K+ ~ 1.3K+ I recommend the downtown Portland area <--- 1 to 2 BedR ; 1 to 1&1/2 RestR ; With or WithO garage

*Near the PSU campus can be very cheap or expensive and parking can be difficult*

900+ ~ 1.2K I recommend Beaverton/Hillsboro/Sylvania <--- 2 to 3 RedR ; 2 to 2&1/2 RestR ; With garage

*Apartments & condominiums near Intel campuses, Nike HQ and PCC campuses are expensive*

Sherwood/Tigard just like Beaverton but not too sure with the $$$$

Good luck!|||Quote:

Actually, he was pretty useful, with stories about Portland. He also suggested I look at some of the other semi-big cities in Oregon, since they might be cheaper

maybe you already posted the results of your search and I didn't see it, but do you mind telling what city you finally decided on and why ?|||Yeah, I'm curious too. Did you decide already? I live near Seattle, and I have lived a short time near Portland.

Seattle itself is quite expensive, but there are many options around. For upscale places, see Mercer Island, Bellevue, Mill Creek, Woodinville, or Edmonds. Pretty much any other nearby town is fairly cheap with reasonable options. The only places I can think of to avoid would be downtown Everett, Capitol Hill/Fremont (parts of Seattle, unless their "unique" scene is to your tastes) and maybe Renton. All are probably slightly more expensive than Oregon. The Tacoma area could also be a cheap option, but is not as nice and it smells bad.

There are only a few negatives to Seattle, the constant overcast sky/drizzle, traffic/parking (which is also a problem in Portland and CA), and that there are more vegan restaurants than steakhouse/BBQ places.

The benefits are numerous, including beautiful scenery, several ski/snowboard options, interesting places to visit, tech industry, variety of cultures, sports (and occasionally one of the teams doesn't totally suck), etc. And the view of Mt Rainier is much more impressive than Mt Hood.|||Hmm, I never saw this thread.

I lived in Klamath Falls for most of my life before I moved to Florida for a job. Still miss the place, silly little podunk cow-town though it is.|||Funny since the one OTF'r moved out of Oregon to go eastward....|||Quote:

Make that two, kinda. Half of my fambly still has roots in Idaho.|||Couch Potatoes are like that.

So do you all reproduce using tubers?

Corvallis is where Oregon State is located, and I didn't check housing, but it's got to be interesting. The city population is only 54k, and there are 23k enrolled at OSU. Counting teachers and staff that's got to be what, 60% of the town population? Amazing they can maintain a fairly successful major college athletic department, and football team, with such a minuscule population.

This is where I live. If you like small towns it is hard to beat. Lots of good mountain biking around if that's your thing (it's my thing). Decent amount of bars thanks to the school if that's your thing too.

If you like cities, Portland is the way to go. Salem and Eugene are ****holes. Parts of Portland are too, but north Portland is nice, and Portland has a lot of great food. Portland also has Ground Kontrol for that epic mix of old school arcade games and alcohol.|||Quote:

That twice so far.
